Apple’s MagSafe Duo is not compatible with the company’s 29W charging adapter
This year, Apple’s iPhone 12 and M1 processors weren’t the only ones grabbing the company’s attention. The new MagSafe chargers also grabbed the headlines. Of those two, the MagSafe Duo charger would now be incompatible with Apple’s old 29-watt USB-C power adapter.
This adapter is not really old as it was replaced by a 30 watt power adapter just two years ago in 2018. So there is a good chance that you have this 29 watt power adapter at home and you were using it with MagSafe Duo since this new wireless charger does not come with a charging adapter. However, if you can’t use it at all.
This information comes directly from one of Apple’s support pages for the MagSafe Duo. In the support page, it clearly states that “Apple’s 29-watt USB-C power adapter is not compatible with the MagSafe Duo charger.”
It should be added that Apple’s new charger that powers the iPhone and Apple Watch simultaneously doesn’t come with a power adapter either.
It’s part of Apple’s decision to go carbon-free in the next few years. During the iPhone 12 launch, he announced that in the future all iPhone retail boxes would miss the charger and headphones.
While this may be slightly frustrating for some MagSafe Duo charger users, what adds to it is the fact that this charger will not be able to deliver peak speeds of 15 watts like the regular MagSafe charger.
Although Apple only recommends users to use a 20 watt adapter with MagSafe Duo. This has led people to assume that the charger will also be capable of delivering 15 watts of charging speed like the original MagSafe. However, the updated product description now states that MagSafe Duo can only deliver 11 watts of power if you use it with a 20 watt adapter. When connected to a 27-watt or higher USB Type-C adapter, it will achieve a charging speed of 14 watts.
